National Research Delivery Model Drives Rapid Recruitment for Global Vaccine Study

The UK has demonstrated its capacity to deliver commercial trials with speed and predictability, securing 75 per cent of global recruitment for Moderna’s Phase 3 pandemic avian flu vaccine trial (Odyssey 301).
Delivered via the UK Vaccine Innovation Pathway within the NIHR Industry Hub, participating NHS sites achieved a median set-up timeline of 76.5 days, with the study reaching its 3,000-participant UK recruitment target in just 59 days. This rapid delivery relied on a coordinated national approach, combining primary care Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDCs), regional Agile Research Delivery Teams, and targeted volunteer outreach via the Be Part of Research registry.
By offering commercial sponsors rapid set-up, low screen failures, and reliable recruitment, the study demonstrates the strength of the UK’s research ecosystem in delivering major international clinical trials.
